American political cartoonist, 1913-1982. A political liberal who at one time was considered America's most widely circulated cartoonist. The National Cartoonists' Society awarded him the best editorial cartoonist award in 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1966, and the Silver T-Square award for overall service in 1973.
